We started Essential Basics because we were tired of choosing between quality and price.

The frustration that started it all

For a long time, buying a genuinely good t-shirt in India felt like a trap. You either paid a premium for an international brand that charged you mostly for its logo, or you settled for something cheaper that looked fine on day one and fell apart by day ten.

We looked at what was available and kept asking the same question: why does quality have to cost this much? The fabric technology exists. The manufacturing capability exists. What was missing was a brand that chose to prioritise the product over the packaging, the material over the marketing, and the customer over the margin.

That question became Essential Basics.

Two people from Kerala. One clear idea.

Essential Basics was started by two co-founders from Kerala — a state that has always understood the value of doing things properly. We are not a large company. We are not backed by venture capital. We are a bootstrapped brand, built with our own hands and our own money, with a genuine belief that the Indian consumer deserves better than what the market has been offering.

We started with t-shirts because basics are where quality matters most. Not statement pieces, not trend-driven drops — the things you reach for every single day. The tee you wear to college, on a trip, around the house, out with friends. If that piece is built well, everything else follows.

What we mean by affordable luxury

Affordable luxury is not a discount. It is a decision.

It means choosing 210 GSM super combed cotton over a cheaper blend and absorbing the cost difference rather than passing it on. It means a boxy oversized fit that is actually designed — with a considered shoulder drop, a chest width that holds its shape, and a hem length that works across body types — rather than just scaled up from a regular tee.

It means no logos, no prints, no seasonal gimmicks. Just six carefully chosen colourways, a clean silhouette, and a fabric that holds its structure, its colour, and its shape wash after wash.

Our price range runs from ₹499 to ₹1,599. Every single product in that range is built to outperform what you would expect at that price. That is the standard we have set for ourselves.

The t-shirt is just the beginning

The Core Collection — six oversized t-shirts in 210 GSM super combed cotton — is our first drop. It is the foundation of what Essential Basics will become.

More essentials are coming. Every new product will be held to the same standard: built from materials that justify the price, cut with a silhouette that is considered rather than generic, and designed to last rather than to look good once.

We are building this brand one honest product at a time. No shortcuts. No compromise on the things that actually matter.

Our commitment to you

We will always tell you exactly what a product is made from and why. We will never charge you for a logo you did not ask for. We will never release something we would not wear ourselves.
